Tallinn Airport (TLL) to the city

Tram 4 reaches the old town in about fifteen minutes for EUR 1.50, and the city takes no cash for it at all.

  • The airport is about 4 km from the old town - one of the shortest airport transfers of any European capital.
  • Tram 4 runs from the terminal itself, not from a shuttle stop, taking about fifteen minutes into the centre.
  • A visitor pays EUR 1.50 a ride. Tallinn's free public transport applies to people registered as residents of Tallinn, and not to you.
  • You cannot pay cash. Tap a contactless bank card on the validator, or buy in the app. There is no driver taking coins.
  • Bus 2 goes to the port, which is what you want for the Helsinki ferry.

The shortest transfer on this site

Tallinn Airport is about 4 km from the old town, and tram 4 leaves from the terminal. A late arrival here costs a couple of euros rather than a taxi fare, which is not true of most airports.

  • Tram 4 into the centre, roughly fifteen minutes.
  • Bus 2 covers the same ground and continues to the passenger port - the stop for the Helsinki ferry.

The free transport that is not free for you

  • Tallinn was the first capital in the world to make public transport free, and it has been reported that way ever since.
  • It applies to people whose registered residence is Tallinn. They tap a personal Uhiskaart and pay nothing.
  • Visitors pay the ordinary fare, EUR 1.50.

And you cannot pay cash

  • Tallinn's trams and buses take contactless bank cards tapped on the validator, or tickets bought in the app.
  • There is no driver selling tickets for coins.
  • Tap the validator even with a contactless card. The tap is the fare payment; not tapping is travelling without a ticket, and inspectors do check.

Taxis and ride-hailing

  • Bolt was founded in Tallinn and is what everyone uses. Uber operates as well.
  • The app price is the price, and over four kilometres it is not a large one.
