Type G dominates; a Europlug needs an adapter because there is usually nothing it fits.
What you need, by where you are coming from
Arriving from the United States or CanadaA plug adapter, and appliances marked 100-240 V. Anything single-voltage needs a converter.
Arriving from the UK or IrelandPlugs go straight in and the voltage matches. Nothing to pack.
Arriving from most of continental EuropePlugs go straight in and the voltage matches. Nothing to pack.
Arriving from Australia or New ZealandA plug adapter is enough - the voltage is the same as at home.
Socket types, voltage and frequency are the nominal domestic supply as published in IEC/TR 60083 and the national standards it lists.
Malaysian sockets are British Type at 230 V, and a Europlug has nothing to fit into without an adapter.
Sockets in Malaysia are Type at 230 V, 50 Hz - the British three-pin plug, with Type appearing on air conditioners and other heavy equipment.
A Europlug has nowhere to go. Appliances with a Europlug are sold here, but they need an adapter, because there are usually no two-pin sockets to take them.
British plugs fit straight in. American, European and Australian ones do not.
230 V, so only American 120 V-only appliances need a converter.
Adapters are cheap in any Mydin or 99 Speedmart, and hotels will lend one at reception if you ask.
One adapter covers the neighbours that matter. Singapore and Brunei are Type as well. Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam are not, so a trip through the region still needs a universal adapter.
