Getting from Senai International Airport to the city

The shuttle

• Route AA1, the Senai Airport Shuttle, is the direct link between Senai International and JB Sentral in central Johor Bahru.
• It is non-stop and takes 50 minutes. Departures from JB Sentral are on the hour from 09:00 to 19:00, with a final run at 20:30.
• One way is 8 ringgit, which is the cheapest way into the city by a wide margin.
• At the airport, pick-up is at the end of the bus platform. Ask the Causeway Link counter staff, because the bay can move.

The Singapore connection is the point

• A lot of people fly into Senai precisely to reach Singapore cheaply. JB Sentral is where that happens.
• CW1, CW2 and CW5 run from JB Sentral over the causeway. Between them they reach Kranji MRT station, Queen Street Terminal and Newton Circus.
• The border is done on foot. Malaysian exit formalities are at CIQ First Link, about a 15 minute walk from JB Sentral, and Singapore's at Woodlands Checkpoint. You get off the bus, clear immigration, and get on the next one.
• Allow much longer than the map suggests at weekends and public holidays. The causeway queues are legendary.

The other way out

• JB Sentral is also the KTM railway station. The shuttle train to Woodlands in Singapore runs from here, and it is far quicker than the bus when you can get a seat, but it books out.
• Long-distance KTM trains north to Gemas and on to Kuala Lumpur also start here.

The airport

• Senai is about 25 km north-west of Johor Bahru, and it is Malaysia's southern gateway.
• It is mostly a domestic and regional airport, with AirAsia and Malaysia Airlines links to Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu, Kuching and a handful of nearby countries.
• Changi is an hour and a half away by road and serves everywhere Senai does not, so the two are alternatives rather than rivals.
