Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) to the city
KLIA Ekspres and KLIA Transit charge the same RM 55 to KL Sentral; the difference is stops, and groups and online buyers pay less.
- Both trains cost RM 55 for the full journey between KLIA and KL Sentral. The fare is identical; only the stopping pattern differs.
- KLIA Ekspres is nonstop. KLIA Transit calls at Salak Tinggi, Putrajaya & Cyberjaya and Bandar Tasik Selatan on the way.
- Take the Transit if one of those stops is nearer your destination - Bandar Tasik Selatan in particular is a major interchange, and you pay no more for using it.
- Booking on the operator's app or site is usually about 10 per cent cheaper.
- Three or more adults together can use the Group Saver at about RM 40 each - a substantial saving that is easy to miss.
Same price, different trains
Kuala Lumpur runs two services on the same tracks and charges the same for both.

- If you are going to KL Sentral, the Ekspres is quicker for no extra money.
- If one of the Transit's stops is closer to where you are going, use it. Bandar Tasik Selatan is a major interchange with the LRT and the long-distance bus terminal, and there is no fare penalty for getting off there.
How to pay less
- Book on the operator's own app or website - about 10 per cent off the standard fare.
- The Group Saver package brings it to about RM 40 per person for three or more adults travelling together. This is the biggest single saving available and it is not advertised at the barrier.
- Both terminals are served, so a KLIA2 arrival on a low-cost flight uses the same trains.
The cheaper, slower option
- Coaches run from both terminals to KL Sentral for a fraction of the train fare.
- They take considerably longer and sit in whatever traffic there is on the way in.
- With time and a light bag they are the value choice; with a connection to make they are not.
Two Kuala Lumpur terminals
- KLIA Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 (formerly klia2) are separate buildings on the same site, connected by the train and a shuttle bus.
- Low-cost carriers use Terminal 2. Allow real time if you are connecting between them - it is not a walk.
