Getting from Los Cabos International Airport to the city

The bus exists

• Los Cabos has a public bus that stops at the airport, run by Ruta del Desierto, and a great many visitors never learn this.
• Eighty pesos to or from the airport. Thirty seven pesos between the two towns.
• The stop is at terminal 1. Most international flights arrive at terminal 2, and the walk across is short but not signposted as an obvious thing to do.
• Buy at the desk in terminal 1 arrivals, then wait at the stop outside.
• The buses are purple and yellow.

The timetable

• Service starts from Santa Anita, south of the airport, at about 04:30 and runs until about 23:00.
• Every 8 to 10 minutes at busy times, every 15 to 30 minutes off peak.
• That is a real frequency, not a token service.

Where it goes

• The route follows the main highway: Santa Anita, the airport, San Jose del Cabo, the tourist corridor, Cabo San Lucas.
• San Jose del Cabo: it stops at the La Comer supermarket.
• Cabo San Lucas: near the Puerto Paraiso mall.
• It stops frequently along the corridor too, which is where most of the resorts are.
• Allow an hour to an hour and a quarter to Cabo San Lucas, and up to two hours coming the other way if the traffic through San Jose is bad.

Why this matters

• Los Cabos has an unusually aggressive airport transfer trade, including timeshare pitches dressed as transport desks in arrivals.
• Knowing there is an eighty peso bus changes the conversation.
• Walk past the desks, out of the building, and to terminal 1.
