Getting from Felipe Angeles International Airport to the city

The BRT

• Mexibus Line 1 is the cheap way in. It runs from the Terminal Multimodal Azteca Bicentenario at Ciudad Azteca out to Ojo de Agua, 24 stations.
• At Ojo de Agua you change onto the AIFA Service, the branch of the same Line 1 that runs into the airport: Loma Bonita, Ozumbilla, San Francisco, Quetzalcoatl, Tecamac, La Redonda, Glorieta Militar, Combustibles, Hacienda, Torre de Control, Terminal de Pasajeros.
• The change is free provided you tap the same card you used to enter.
• The fare is 10 pesos, and children over a metre tall pay it too.
• You need a Mexipase card, 25 pesos from the machines at any Mexibus station, with one journey included.
• Hours: 04:30 to 23:00 towards the airport, 04:30 to 23:46 away from it, seven days a week.
• Board beside the Intermodal Terminal of Ground Transport (TITT) at the airport.

The train

• The Tren Felipe Angeles runs from the airport's Intermodal Terminal to Buenavista in central Mexico City, where you can change to the Metro, the Metrobus or a taxi.
• It also reaches Cuautitlan, by way of the interchange at Lecheria.
• The journey time started at about 60 minutes and is intended to come down to 43.
• The AIFA branch has 12 stations: Buenavista, Fortuna, Tlalnepantla, San Rafael, Lecheria-ramal, Cueyamil, La Loma, Teyahualco, Prados Sur, Cajiga, Xaltocan, AIFA.
• Six stations have pedestrian accesses and five have modal transfer centres with toilets and onward connections.

Which one

• The Mexibus is cheaper and runs later. The train is faster and lands you in the middle of the city.
• Buenavista is the better arrival point for most visitors - it is on Metro Line B and the Metrobus, and it is walkable to the Alameda.
• Neither is quick. AIFA is 45 km north of the Zocalo, and that distance is the whole story of this airport.

Why this airport exists

• AIFA opened in March 2022 on the Santa Lucia air force base, to relieve Mexico City's Benito Juarez airport (MEX).
• It is a long way out, and airlines and passengers have been slow to move. Check which Mexico City airport your ticket says: MEX and NLU are 50 km apart and there is no quick link between them.
• It has won design awards - Prix Versailles named it one of the six most beautiful airports in the world - which is not the same as being convenient.
