Oulu (OUL): city buses 8 and 9, not an airport coach
Oulu has no dedicated airport bus. Ordinary city routes 8 and 9 serve the terminal, cost a normal city fare and take twenty to thirty minutes.
- Buses 8 and 9 are the airport routes. Finavia names both. They are ordinary Oulu city buses, not an airport express.
- The airport is about 15 km from the city centre.
- Journey time is quoted as 20 minutes and as 30 minutes by two sources. Allow the longer figure.
- One published adult fare is 5.80 euro for the AB zone covering the airport.
- Timetables are on Oulunliikenne.fi, the city's own journey planner, which is what Finavia points you at.
- A taxi takes about 15 minutes and costs around 35 euro, roughly six times the bus.
- Taxis meet flights and can be pre-ordered, which is worth doing for a late arrival in winter.
- Oulu is the busiest domestic route in Finland after Helsinki itself, so the bus timetable is built around flight times rather than the other way round.
The buses
- Finavia names routes 8 and 9 as the airport services. Both are normal City of Oulu bus routes that happen to call at the terminal.
- There is no separate airport coach and no airport surcharge. You pay a city fare.
- Timetables live on Oulunliikenne.fi, the city's journey planner, which Finavia links to rather than republishing.
How long it takes
- The two sources here disagree. Oulu2026, the city's European Capital of Culture organisation, says 20 minutes to the centre. A travel publisher says about 30.
- Plan on 30 and be pleased if it is 20. Route 8 and route 9 take slightly different paths through the northern suburbs, which is the likely explanation.

- Buy from the driver or in the city's ticketing app.
- The taxi is about six times the bus fare for half the time. In February at midnight that trade is easier to justify than in June.
Pre-ordering a taxi
- Local operators meet flights and take advance bookings. Oulu2026 names Otaxi and Meneva.
- This matters in winter. Oulu is at 65 degrees north and the last bus is not late.
