Trabzon (TZX): the shuttle runs east along the coast to Rize
One of the shortest airport runs in Turkey, and the Havas shuttle does not just serve the city; it carries on east along the Black Sea to Of and Rize.
- The airport is very close to the city. Sources say 6 km or 8 km; either way it is a 10 to 20 minute drive.
- The Havas shuttle into Trabzon is about 190 TRY and takes 30 minutes, terminating at the Trabzon otogar, the intercity bus terminal.
- The same operator runs east along the coast: Of at about 270 TRY and 55 minutes, Rize at about 320 TRY and 75 minutes.
- The Rize line stops at Yomra, Arsin, Araklı and Sürmene along the way, which covers a lot of the coast.
- That is the reason to check the shuttle before booking a transfer. If you are heading east, it goes where you are going.
- A taxi to the centre is about 495 TRY. Twenty-four hour service from the exit.
- City buses and dolmuş minibuses also serve the airport, cheaper and slower.
- Shuttles leave according to flight arrivals with no booking needed. Buy on board or at the desk.
- The domestic and international terminals are separate buildings, 5 to 7 minutes apart on foot.
- The route map is Gulf and Caucasus heavy: AZAL, Kuwait Airways, Qatar Airways and Jazeera Airways alongside Turkish Airlines.
The shuttle that goes further than you expect
- Havas runs the airport shuttle, and it does not stop at Trabzon. The eastward line continues along the Black Sea coast.

- The Rize service stops at Yomra, Arsin, Araklı and Sürmene. If your hotel is anywhere along that stretch, this is a direct ride rather than a taxi plus a bus.
- Buses leave according to flight arrivals and need no booking. Buy on board or at the desk. The Havas centre number for current times is 444 0 487.
Into the city
- The centre is very close. One guide says 6 km, another 8. The drive is 10 to 20 minutes and the difference does not matter.
- A taxi is about 495 TRY, available 24 hours from the airport exit. Check the meter is running or agree the price first.
- City buses and dolmuş minibuses also pass the airport, on the city fare. A bus from Meydan Square, the main square, takes 15 to 30 minutes.
- The shuttle terminus is the otogar, which is convenient if you are going straight on by intercity coach and less so if your hotel is in the middle of town.
Two terminals, and a walk between them
- Domestic and international are separate buildings, about 5 to 7 minutes apart on foot.
- Check which one your onward flight leaves from. A domestic connection off an international arrival means walking outside with your bags.
- Cafés, duty free, wifi, currency exchange, ATMs, mother and child rooms and reduced mobility assistance in both.
What flies here
- The international map is unusual for a Turkish regional airport: AZAL from Azerbaijan, Kuwait Airways, Qatar Airways and Jazeera Airways.
- That is Gulf tourism to the Black Sea, which has grown enormously and is the reason Trabzon in summer is busier than its size suggests.
- Turkish Airlines and the domestic carriers do the Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir traffic.
Where you are
- Trabzon is the gateway to the eastern Black Sea: Sumela monastery, Uzungöl, and the highland valleys inland.
- It rains here. This is the wettest region of Turkey and a summer itinerary should assume some of it will be wet.
