Katowice Airport (KTW) to Krakow and Katowice

Krakow is 76 km away by coach, about 1 hour 20 minutes at best, from around EUR 10.

  • Krakow has its own airport. Krakow Balice (KRK) has a train into the city in about twenty minutes; Katowice is 76 km from Krakow and is a different journey entirely.
  • The coach to Krakow takes about an hour and a half.
  • Book ahead rather than at the airport desk. Several operators share the route and the gap between an advance fare and a walk-up one is large.
  • Several operators share the route - FlixBus, Matuszek, Infobus and others - so compare rather than taking the first desk you see.
  • Katowice itself is the closer city, about 30 km south of the airport, and is where the cheap connections onward actually are.

Where the airport actually is

Katowice Airport is at Pyrzowice, in Silesia, about 30 km north of Katowice and 76 km from Krakow. It is heavily used for Krakow by travellers who found a cheaper fare, which is fine as long as the coach is in the plan.

To Krakow

Coaches run through the day and take about an hour and a half.

The route is shared by FlixBus, Matuszek, Infobus and others, which is why the price varies so much between the airport desks and an online booking. It is worth buying before you land.

To Katowice

Katowice is the nearer and cheaper option, about half the distance, and its main station is a hub for onward trains across southern Poland. If your plan for Krakow was flexible, arriving into Katowice and taking a train on is often quicker than the direct coach.
