Warsaw Modlin Airport (WMI) to Warsaw
One combined ticket at 20.00 PLN covers the airport shuttle, the train to central Warsaw and 75 minutes of city transport.
- Buy the Airport Ticket, not two separate ones. Koleje Mazowieckie sells a single 20.00 PLN ticket covering the shuttle bus, the train into central Warsaw and 75 minutes of ZTM Zone I transport once you are there.
- The shuttle to Modlin station is not free - 6.30 PLN on its own if you buy it separately, which is why the combined ticket is the one to ask for.
- The Airport Ticket will not open a metro gate. Use the lifts down to the platform, or collect a free metro ticket at a Passenger Service Centre first.
- Write the start time on the ticket yourself. The 75 minutes runs from the time you enter on the ticket, legibly and permanently, or from the time set in the app.
- Modlin is not Warsaw Chopin. Chopin (WAW) is the city airport; Modlin is about 40 km north of it, so check which one your onward plan assumed.
Where the airport actually is
Modlin is roughly 40 km north of Warsaw, near Nowy Dwor Mazowiecki. Warsaw's other airport, Chopin (WAW), is inside the city and on a train line of its own. The two are routinely confused when people book a flight out on the morning after landing.
The Airport Ticket
There is no railway station at the terminal. The route into town is a Koleje Mazowieckie shuttle bus to Modlin railway station, then a KM train to Warsaw.
Koleje Mazowieckie sells that as one thing: the Airport Ticket, 20.00 PLN one way, valid between the airport and any railway station inside Warsaw. It also carries 75 minutes of travel on ZTM Zone I public transport on the day it is valid - the connecting tram or bus at the far end is already paid for.
Two conditions that catch people out:
- You mark the start time. The 75 minutes begins at the time the passenger writes on the ticket "in a legible and permanent manner", or at the time entered in the mobile app. Nobody validates it for you.
- The metro gates will not read it. Koleje Mazowieckie's own instruction is to use the lifts to the metro platforms, or to pick up a free metro ticket at a Passenger Service Centre. Standing at a gate that will not open, with a valid ticket in your hand, is the standard Modlin arrival experience.
Bought separately, the KM bus between Modlin station and the airport is 6.30 PLN - so the combined ticket is worth asking for by name.
Direct coaches
FlixBus and other operators run direct to central Warsaw without the change at Modlin station. They are simpler with heavy luggage and are sold from about EUR 8, but they sit in the same traffic the train avoids.
