Getting around the city, and which apps to install

Polish cities run entirely on time-based tickets. A paper ticket must go into the yellow validator the moment you board or before you enter the metro's paid area; buy contactlessly on board instead and nothing prints - the ticket is encoded on your payment card.

Polish city transport runs on time-based tickets, and validation is on you.

  • A paper ticket must be validated in the yellow validator immediately after boarding, or before entering the metro's paid area.
  • In modern vehicles, buy contactlessly at the on-board terminal - nothing is printed, and the ticket is encoded on your payment card.

The apps worth having:

  • Jakdojade - the standard public transport navigation app for every larger Polish city, with real-time journey search and direct purchase of city tickets.
  • KOLEO - the official platform for searching rail connections and buying PKP Intercity and regional tickets without a markup.
  • SkyCash / moBiLET - city transport tickets and parking payments in urban zones.
  • Uber / Bolt / FreeNow - approved ride-hailing, with a guaranteed price up front and cashless payment in the app.

Apps and platforms

Jakdojade for city transport search and tickets, KOLEO for rail, SkyCash for parking and transport payments, plus the operators' own apps for topping up a prepaid SIM.
