Sundsvall-Timra (SDL): the airport bus ended on 19 June 2013

The airport still says it plainly: the Sundsvall to airport buses ceased in June 2013. The alternative is a bus to Deltavagen and about a kilometre on foot to arrivals.

  • The airport buses that ran Sundsvall to Sundsvall Timra Airport ceased on 19 June 2013. The airport says so on its own bus page.
  • There is no replacement airport bus. Thirteen years on, that is the situation, not a temporary gap.
  • The alternative is an ordinary bus to the Deltavagen stop.
  • From Sundsvall to Deltavagen takes about 40 minutes.
  • From Harnosand it is about 50 minutes.
  • From the Deltavagen stop it is about one kilometre on foot to the arrivals hall.
  • That kilometre is the part to plan for. In a Norrland winter, with luggage, it is a decision.
  • Times and fares are with DinTur, the Vasternorrland public transport authority, on 0771-10 01 10.
  • For most arrivals this is a taxi or a hire car airport.
  • The airport is at Midlanda, between Sundsvall and Harnosand, which is why neither town has a short link to it.

The service that is not there

  • The airport's own bus page opens with the fact: the airport buses that used to run the Sundsvall to Sundsvall Timra Airport route ceased on 19 June 2013.
  • Nothing has replaced them. The page has been up long enough to make that clear.

What you can actually do

  • Take an ordinary bus from Sundsvall to the Deltavagen stop.

FromTime to Deltavagen
Sundsvallabout 40 min
Harnosandabout 50 min
  • From Deltavagen to the arrivals hall is about one kilometre on foot.
  • Plan for that walk. It is the difference between a bus journey and a bus journey plus fifteen minutes in the weather.
  • Times and fares come from DinTur, the Vasternorrland transport authority, on 0771-10 01 10.

The practical answer

  • For most arrivals, this is a taxi or a hire car airport. A 40 minute bus plus a kilometre's walk is not a realistic transfer for anyone with a suitcase.
  • Arrange it before you land, particularly for an evening arrival.

Where this is

  • The airport is at Midlanda, roughly between Sundsvall and Harnosand on the Bothnian coast.
  • It sits between two towns rather than beside one, which is the underlying reason the link has always been awkward.
