Bali Airport (DPS) to the resorts
The official counter sells fixed fares by zone; ride-hailing works but only from designated points, and some areas of Bali block it entirely.
- The official taxi counter is in arrivals and sells fixed fares by destination zone. You settle the price at the counter and are matched with a driver - no negotiation.
- Grab and Gojek work at the airport but only from the designated pick-up area. They cannot collect you at the kerb.
- Some parts of Bali block ride-hailing pick-ups entirely, enforced by local taxi associations. This affects your journey back more than your arrival.
- Agree everything before the luggage goes in. Once your bag is in the boot the price stops being negotiable.
- Journey times are long for the distance. Bali's roads are congested and Ubud or Canggu can take well over an hour despite looking close.
The official counter
- Inside the arrivals hall there is an official taxi counter with fixed fares set by zone.
- You pay or agree at the counter and are then matched with a driver.
- This removes the guesswork and is the simplest thing to do on arrival, especially at night or on a first visit.
Grab and Gojek
- Both operate at the airport, and both are cheaper than the counter for most journeys.
- Pick-up is from a designated area only. There is a marked Grab point at DPS; drivers cannot collect from the arrivals kerb.
- Follow the signs rather than the app's default pin, which sometimes points at a spot the driver is not allowed to use.
The part that bites later
Some areas of Bali do not permit Grab or Gojek pick-ups at all. This is enforced by local transport cooperatives rather than by law, and it varies by village and by beach.
- It rarely affects getting out of the airport.
- It regularly affects getting a ride from your hotel, particularly in parts of Ubud, Canggu and the smaller beach areas.
- Ask your accommodation what works where you are staying. They will know, and they will usually have a driver.
Practicalities
- Distances are short and journeys are long. Bali's roads are single-carriageway and congested; Ubud is about 35 km from the airport and can take an hour and a half.
- Agree the price before the luggage is loaded.
- Have small notes. "No change" is a common closing move here as elsewhere.
- A hired driver for a day is a standard and reasonably priced way to see the island, and most hotels arrange it.

if you walk for 10 minutes from Denpasar Airport (I usually walk to Chaskaa Modern Indian Cuisine & Bar ) and get a Grab from there its gonna be much much cheaper
