Getting from Supadio International Airport to the city

The published tariff

• Supadio publishes the tariff its taxi operators charge, which very few airports anywhere do.
• The meter opens at 7,000 rupiah, or 7,500 with Abadi, and runs at 5,000 rupiah a kilometre after that.
• Six operators work the rank: Abadi, Blue Bird, Kokapura, Matra, Nice Trans and Puskopau, all around the clock.
• In practice the airport to the city works out at 80,000 to 120,000 rupiah, charged on fixed destination zones rather than strictly on the meter.
• Knowing the published figures is what makes a quote checkable.

The DAMRI, and its short day

• DAMRI runs from the airport along Jalan Arteri Supadio and Jalan Ahmad Yani, past Universitas Tanjungpura, generally finishing near Terminal Batu Layang.
• The fare is 25,000 to 35,000 rupiah, every 30 to 60 minutes.
• It runs roughly 07:00 to 17:00.
• That is the constraint. An evening flight lands after the last bus, and the taxi rank is the only option.

App cars

• GrabCar or GoCar is 40,000 to 80,000 rupiah, 25 to 35 minutes, from a pickup point one or two minutes' walk outside the terminal.
• GrabBike or GoRide is 20,000 to 35,000, for light luggage only.
• Fares rise between about 16:30 and 19:00 and in heavy rain, which in Pontianak is frequent.

Pontianak itself

• The city sits on the equator, and there is a monument marking the line north of the centre.
• The airport is about 13 km out, so nothing here is a long journey.
