Getting from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport to the city

Two vehicles, one journey

• The airport train connects Soekarno-Hatta with the city and ends at Soekarno-Hatta Airport Station, which is a station in the middle of the airport rather than a platform at a terminal.
• From there, the Kalayang skytrain carries you to the terminal you need, free of charge.
• So the trip into or out of Jakarta is two legs. Nobody tells you this at the ticket counter and it is the reason people miss flights they thought they had time for.

Kalayang between terminals

• The Kalayang skytrain also links Terminals 1, 2 and 3 to each other, free of charge.
• Free and paid shuttle buses run the same links, which matters when the skytrain is queued or closed.
• Soekarno-Hatta's terminals are far apart. A terminal change here is a proper journey, not a walk, and it is one of the main causes of missed domestic connections in Indonesia.

Which terminal

• Terminal 3 handles most international traffic and Garuda. Terminals 1 and 2 handle the low-cost and domestic carriers, with the split changing from time to time.
• Check the terminal on your booking on the day. Airlines here move between terminals more often than most.

The road

• Jakarta's traffic is the reason the train exists. A taxi from the centre can take anywhere from 45 minutes to well over two hours, and the train does not care.
