Getting from Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport to the city

The DAMRI shuttle

• DAMRI runs the airport shuttle from the arrivals area to Terminal Mallengkeri, on the south side of Makassar.
• Reported fares vary between 25,000 and 50,000 rupiah across sources, which usually means the fare has moved recently or differs by route working. Carry 50,000 and you are covered.
• It runs roughly 06:00 to 21:00, every 30 to 60 minutes, taking 45 to 60 minutes.
• Tickets are sold at a counter in the terminal.
• There is no night service, so a late arrival means a car.

Taxis

• An official taxi to the city is 100,000 to 150,000 rupiah, 30 to 45 minutes.
• Grab and Gojek run 90,000 to 130,000, with an airport pickup surcharge of 10,000 to 20,000 rupiah on top.
• Use the official taxi counter. Drivers approaching passengers outside the counter area are the standing warning here, and the fare will be worse.
• A pre arranged private transfer is 400,000 to 600,000 rupiah, which is a lot for a 45 minute drive but does run around the clock.

Getting the timing right

• Makassar's traffic is bad in the peak and a 30 minute drive becomes an hour.
• The airport is about 20 km northeast of the city.
• For an early flight the shuttle does not help, since it starts at about six; plan a car.
