Jakarta Halim (HLP): no bus at the terminal, and the Whoosh station next door
Transjakarta has no stop at the Halim terminal. The nearest are about 700 m away. The Whoosh high-speed terminus is 2.4 km off, served by route 7W.
- No Transjakarta stop is at the Halim terminal. Its own network data has nothing at the door.
- The nearest served stops are 600 to 900 metres away: Gereja Oikumene, Pos Jaga Utama, Komplek Angkasa Halim PK and Jalan Komodor.
- Routes JAK.20 (Cawang Sentral to Lubang Buaya) and JAK.21 (Cililitan to Dwikora) are the microbus routes that use them.
- Halim is a military air base as well as a civil airport, which is why the road layout keeps public buses at arm's length.
- The Whoosh high-speed railway's Jakarta terminus, Halim station, is about 2.4 km away. That is the train to Bandung in about 45 minutes.
- Transjakarta route 7W runs from Cawang to the Whoosh station, so the rail connection is served even though the airport is not.
- Cawang is the interchange to know: it is on the Transjakarta trunk corridor and on the commuter rail.
- In practice most people take a taxi or a ride-hail from the terminal, and the airport is only about 12 km from central Jakarta.
The honest position
- Transjakarta does not stop at Halim's terminal. Reading the operator's own network data, there is no stop at the airport building at all.
- The closest stops are between 600 and 900 metres away, inside the surrounding air-force housing area: Gereja Oikumene, Pos Jaga Utama 1 and 2, Komplek Angkasa Halim PK, Masjid Al Fida Komodor, Jalan Cakrawala and Jalan Komodor.
- Two microbus routes use them: JAK.20, Cawang Sentral to Lubang Buaya, and JAK.21, Cililitan to Dwikora.
- Walking that with luggage in Jakarta's heat and traffic is not a serious plan for most arrivals.
What is genuinely useful
- The Whoosh high-speed line to Bandung starts at Halim station, about 2.4 km from the airport. Jakarta to Bandung takes around three quarters of an hour on it, against three hours or more by road.
- Transjakarta route 7W runs between Cawang and the Whoosh station, so once you get to the station you are on the network.
- Cawang is the interchange that matters in this part of Jakarta: Transjakarta's trunk corridor passes through it, and so does the KRL commuter rail.
So how do you leave
- Taxi or ride-hail from the terminal. This is what almost everyone does. Central Jakarta is about 12 km away, though the traffic decides how long that takes.
- If you are heading for Bandung, consider going straight to Halim station rather than into Jakarta at all.
The airport
- Halim is Jakarta's second airport and its original one, opened in 1924 and still an air force base.
- It handles domestic flights and general aviation, and its role has swung back and forth as Soekarno-Hatta's capacity has been rebuilt.
- Soekarno-Hatta, 30 km north-west, is the international airport and the one with a rail link of its own.
