Chania Airport (CHQ) to Chania and Rethymno
KTEL buses leave from across the Departures area on the east side of the terminal for Chania, Rethymno and other destinations, with tickets bought from the driver.
- Buses run to Chania, Rethymno and other destinations from the airport.
- The stop is across the Departures area, on the east side of the terminal, not outside Arrivals.
- Tickets are bought from the bus driver, so carry cash.
- Rethymno without a change is the useful part: it is halfway to Heraklion.
- The operator is KTEL Chania Rethymno, which publishes timetables in date ranges rather than a fixed schedule.
- The taxi rank is across from the Arrivals B area.
Where the bus goes
- Chania town is about 14 km west of the airport, out on the Akrotiri peninsula.
- Rethymno is served directly, which saves a change for anyone heading into central Crete.
- Other destinations are added seasonally as flights change.
The practicalities
- The stop is on the east side of the terminal, across from Departures. Walking out of Arrivals and looking left will not find it.
- Tickets from the driver, in cash.
- KTEL publishes timetables as dated PDFs covering a few weeks at a time, because the routes are adjusted to the flight schedule. Check the one covering your travel dates.
Fares
- Neither the airport nor KTEL publishes the airport fare in its online timetables, so have cash and expect a low single figure sum by Greek standards.
