Heraklion Airport (HER) to the city and across Crete

A zone A ticket is 1.30 EUR bought in advance and 2.30 EUR from the driver, and the bus into Heraklion runs every 10 to 15 minutes all year.

  • A zone A single is 1.30 EUR bought in advance and 2.30 EUR bought on board, under rates that took effect on 23 March 2026. The airport to the city centre is zone A.
  • Buying in advance saves 1.00 EUR, which is most of the fare. Use the operator's app, a kiosk or a ticket shop.
  • Take a blue bus for the city. The ride is about 20 minutes and runs every 10 to 15 minutes all year, from about 06:00 to midnight.
  • Heraklion has two intercity coach stations, and they serve opposite ends of Crete.
  • Central Bus Station A is for Rethymno and Chania, west along the coast.
  • The other Central Bus Station covers Malia, Agios Nikolaos, Ierapetra and Sitia, to the east.
  • Get the right one. Arriving at the wrong station means crossing the city with luggage.
  • KTEL publishes timetables as dated ranges, not as a fixed schedule, because they follow the season.

What the bus costs

Heraklion Airport (HER) to the city and across Crete
Ticket, zone APrice
Bought in advance1.30 EUR
Bought on board2.30 EUR
  • The gap is the point. Paying the driver costs almost twice as much, and the airport to the city centre is a zone A journey either way.
  • Buy in the operator's app, at a kiosk or at a ticket shop before you board.
  • These rates took effect on 23 March 2026.
  • The blue buses are the city ones. Take one of those for Heraklion itself.
  • Every 10 to 15 minutes, all year, roughly 06:00 to midnight, and about 20 minutes end to end.

The two stations

  • This is the thing to know at Heraklion. The island's two halves leave from two different places in the city, and the airport bus does not take you to both.
  • Check which station your onward coach uses before deciding where to get off.
  • There are also express services to Chania in summer, which cut the journey substantially.

The timetables

  • KTEL Heraklio Lasithi publishes its schedules in dated ranges, adjusted through the season.
  • Departures to Ioannina and Thessaloniki run over the ferry, on long summer schedules.
  • Check the range covering your travel dates rather than a general timetable.
