Mytilene (MJT): the bus exists but nothing points you to it

A city bus runs into Mytilini for about 1.60 to 2.10 euro, but the stop is at the far end of the terminal and is not signposted from the building. The taxi rank is right outside arrivals at about 15 euro.

  • There is a public bus between the airport and Mytilini city. Fraport confirms it; the operator is Astika Mitilinis.
  • The airport says the stop is in front of the departures terminal. A traveller's account puts it more precisely: leave by the arrivals exit, turn left and walk to the end of the terminal building.
  • It is not signposted from the building at all. Look for a large lime green city bus sign with a timetable taped to the post.
  • Tickets are bought from the driver. Carry cash.
  • The fare is quoted at about 1.60 euro and at 2.10 euro by different sources. Either way it is a couple of euro.
  • The bus goes to the centre of Mytilini, the main bus station and the port.
  • The taxi rank is in front of the arrivals terminal, with a line of taxis and someone coordinating them.
  • One traveller paid 15 euro to Mytilini bus station. No posted price list was visible.
  • The airport is 6.5 km south of Mytilini town. One other source says 7 to 8 km.
  • It is right next to the sea, and small: four gates and nine check-in desks.
  • For onward island travel use KTEL Lesvos from the main bus station.
  • If your flight lands late, the taxi is the plan. The city bus is a daytime service.

The bus, and finding it

  • Fraport confirms a bus service between the airport and Mytilini, operated by Astika Mitilinis, with tickets sold by the driver.
  • The airport places the stop in front of the departures terminal.
  • A first-hand account is more useful: take the arrivals exit, turn left, walk to the end of the terminal building, and the bus area is there. Look for a big lime green city bus sign with a timetable taped to the post.
  • It is not signposted from the building. That is the sentence worth carrying.
  • Transfer coaches wait in the same area, so make sure you are looking at the city bus.
