Thessaloniki Airport (SKG) to the city
The airport buses need their own 2.00 EUR ticket. The 0.60 EUR city ticket and the 2.50 EUR day ticket are explicitly not valid on lines 01X and 02X.
- The airport lines are priced separately. A Ticket for Special Bus Routes costs 2.00 EUR, or 1.00 EUR reduced, and is valid for 70 minutes of unlimited travel.
- The ordinary 0.60 EUR urban ticket does not work here, nor does the 0.80 EUR peri urban ticket, the 10+1 packages or the 2.50 EUR day ticket. All of them exclude lines 01X and 02X.
- The 30 day pass at 16.00 EUR does include the airport lines, along with the 90 day at 45.00 EUR and the 180 day at 85.00 EUR.
- Line 1X is the airport bus, with 1N covering the same route at night, which is what makes late arrivals workable.
- It calls at the city centre, the new railway station and KTEL Makedonia, the main intercity bus terminal.
- Line 2X runs to the Nea Elvetia metro transfer station and line 79 to the eastern transfer station at IKEA.
- Buy at the terminal, from the ticket booth or the OSETH automated machines. There is no sale on board.
- Reduced fares load only onto a personalised ThessCard, so a visitor pays the full 2.00 EUR.

- This is the trap at Thessaloniki. The city's normal ticket is 0.60 EUR and a whole day is 2.50 EUR, so a 2.00 EUR ticket for one bus ride looks wrong, and travellers buy the cheap one and get fined.
- Lines 01X and 02X are classed as special routes, alongside the Cultural Route 50 and the express lines, and only the special routes ticket covers them.
- The 2.00 EUR ticket is itself a 70 minute ticket, so it also covers a connection made shortly after you land.
- Reduced price products load only onto a personalised ThessCard, which a visitor will not have, so the full 2.00 EUR is the fare that applies.
- Prices are set by joint ministerial decision, published in the Government Gazette, rather than by the operator.
One line, three useful stops
- 1X runs between the airport and the city, and 1N covers the same route at night.
- The stops that matter are the city centre, the new railway station and KTEL Makedonia.
- KTEL Makedonia is the coach terminal for Halkidiki, Athens and the rest of northern Greece, so a beach holiday on the peninsula needs no city detour.
- Line 2X connects to the metro at the Nea Elvetia transfer station, and line 79 runs to the eastern transfer station by IKEA.
Buying
- The ticket booth and the OSETH machines are in the terminal. Buy there.
- There is no sale on board. Boarding without a valid ticket is a fine, not a fare.
The airport itself
- Makedonia is 13 km south east of the city, on the Halkidiki road, which is why the coach terminal connection matters.
