Goa Mopa (GOX): the electric Kadamba buses, and the other Goa airport
Mopa is the northern airport, 35 km from Panaji. KTCL runs electric air conditioned buses to Panaji, Mapusa, Calangute and Margao.
- This is the northern of Goa's two airports. Dabolim, the older one, is about 70 km south.
- Mopa is the closer airport for north Goa: Mapusa, Calangute, Baga, Anjuna, Arambol.
- The airport is about 35 km north of Panaji, reached on NH-66.
- Kadamba runs electric air conditioned buses from the airport.
- Routes serve Panaji, Mapusa, Calangute and Margao.
- Five departures a day run to Margao, spread between about 10:30 and 23:00.
- Three run to Panaji and six to Calangute.
- Fares are reported between 200 and 500 rupees depending on the route, with the journey taking 60 to 90 minutes.
- A prepaid taxi to Panaji is 1,200 to 2,500 rupees, 50 to 70 minutes.
- A state monitored app is the alternative to the prepaid counter, which is Goa's answer to the taxi problem.
The northern airport
- Manohar International at Mopa opened as Goa's second airport and takes a growing share of the state's traffic.
- It sits on the Mopa plateau, about 35 km north of Panaji, on NH-66.
- For north Goa it is much the better arrival point: Mapusa, Calangute, Baga, Anjuna and Arambol are all closer to Mopa than to Dabolim.
- For south Goa it is the wrong airport. Palolem from Mopa is a two hour drive.
The buses
- Kadamba runs electric air conditioned buses from the airport, which is unusual and works well.
- Margao: five departures a day, spread from about 10:30 in the morning to 23:00 at night. This is the route that runs latest.
- Panaji: three departures.
- Mapusa: multiple departures from about 08:00.
- Calangute: six departures through the day.
- Fares are reported between 200 and 500 rupees depending on distance, with journeys of 60 to 90 minutes.
- Return workings run from each town back to the airport, generally with early morning and afternoon departures, so an early flight is covered.
Taxis
- A prepaid taxi to Panaji is 1,200 to 2,500 rupees, taking 50 to 70 minutes.
- Calangute and Baga are reported at 1,200 to 1,800 rupees, 45 to 60 minutes.
- Goa runs a state monitored app based taxi service alongside the prepaid counter, which is how the state has tried to settle its long running fight over airport fares.
- Use one or the other. Negotiating on the kerb here is a losing game.
Getting between the two airports
- Dabolim and Mopa are about 70 km apart.
- There is no quick transfer between them. If a connection puts you on flights from both, allow half a day, not two hours.
