Kochi (COK): the bus to Aluva, and the metro from there
The metro does not reach the airport, but Aluva station is 20 to 30 minutes away by a 45 rupee KSRTC bus, and the blue line runs from there.
- The Kochi Metro does not reach the airport. Its northern end is Aluva.
- Aluva is 20 to 30 minutes from the airport by bus, at about 45 rupees.
- From Aluva the metro blue line runs the length of the city to Tripunithura by way of Ernakulam.
- Bus plus metro comes to under 100 rupees, which is the cheapest way across Kochi.
- KSRTC also runs direct buses to Ernakulam, about 30 km and an hour, around 76 rupees.
- Direct buses run to Fort Kochi too, about two hours, calling at Vytilla Hub and Thoppumpadi.
- Vytilla Hub is the city's main interchange, so that is the stop for onward buses.
- Low floor air conditioned KSRTC buses start at 10 rupees for the first 5 km, then about 1.50 a kilometre.
- A taxi to Aluva is roughly 400 to 600 rupees for a ten minute ride.
- The airport runs a prepaid taxi counter, which is the way to avoid negotiating.
The cheap way, which is also a good way
- The Kochi Metro is a genuinely useful line, running from Aluva in the north through Ernakulam to Tripunithura.
- It does not come to the airport. Aluva is as close as it gets.
- A KSRTC bus covers the gap in 20 to 30 minutes for about 45 rupees.
- Bus plus metro gets you from the terminal to central Ernakulam for under 100 rupees, which for a 30 km journey in a major city is very cheap indeed.

Worth knowing
