Mumbai (BOM): two terminals, two metro stations
Metro Line 3 gives Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 a station each, under different names. They are separate stations for separate buildings, several kilometres apart by road.
- Line 3 has two airport stations: CSMI Airport-T1 and CSMI Airport-T2.
- They serve different terminal buildings, which are not walkable from each other.
- Line 3 is the 33.5 km Colaba to Bandra to SEEPZ corridor, underground for its length.
- Terminal 2 handles international flights and some domestic; Terminal 1 is domestic.
- Check your terminal against your station before you board, not after.
Two stations, not one
- Mumbai Metro Line 3 serves Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International with two separate stations: CSMI Airport-T1 and CSMI Airport-T2.
- They are stations for different buildings. T1 and T2 at Mumbai are several kilometres apart by road, with no walkway between them, so this is not a case of two entrances to one place.
- Multi-modal integration facilities were built at six of Line 3's underground stations, including both airport stations, which is what makes the transfer between train and terminal work.
The line
- Line 3 is a 33.5 km corridor running Colaba to Bandra to SEEPZ, underground throughout, built to relieve the road network in south and central Mumbai.
- That gives the airport a direct rail link to the business districts rather than to a single downtown terminus.
What to check before you travel
- Which terminal your flight uses. Terminal 2 handles international traffic and a share of domestic; Terminal 1 is domestic only, and airlines move between them.
- Whether your connection is between terminals. If it is, treat it as a separate journey with its own time budget, not a walk.
- The road option remains what most people use, and Mumbai's traffic is the reason a rail line to the airport was worth building.
