Getting from Sao Paulo Congonhas Airport to the city

A station that is only half open

• Congonhas got a metro station on 31 March 2026: Aeroporto de Congonhas, on Line 17 Gold, the monorail that runs along Avenida Washington Luis.
• It is connected to the airport by a link tunnel, so you do not go outside.
• The catch is the hours. The Metro lists the station as operating 09:00 to 16:00, Monday to Friday - a limited opening while the rest of Line 17 is finished. If your flight lands at 19:00 on a Saturday, the station is not your answer.
• It is an elevated monorail station with a distribution mezzanine and a central platform, 6,110 m2, with lifts, toilets and cycle parking.

The bus that has always worked

• Line 609J/10, Aeroporto - Metro Sao Judas, run by MobiBrasil, is the long-standing link between the airport and the metro.
• Sao Judas is on Metro Line 1 Blue, which runs straight up through Paraiso, Se and Luz - the spine of central Sao Paulo.
• Every 8 minutes all day, with weekday service extended to 23:40.
• From the airport, go to the lower floor, platform B, which has its own signage. Look for buses marked "Conexao Congonhas" with the route map on the side.
• No turnstile on these buses - a conductor takes the fare, and the vehicles have luggage space, air conditioning and wi-fi.
• The route runs via Avenida Washington Luiz, Miruna, dos Bandeirantes and Jabaquara.

Which Sao Paulo airport is this

• Congonhas is the city airport, 8 km from the centre, inside the built-up area, and it handles domestic flights.
• Guarulhos (GRU) is the international one, 25 km the other side of the city, and the transfer between them is an hour or much more in traffic.
• Viracopos (VCP) is the third, at Campinas, 100 km away, and it is a different journey again.
• CGH is famous for its short runway hemmed in by the city. That is why the aircraft are small and the approach is low over houses.
