Chambery (CMF): no public transport serves the airport
The airport states on its own transport page that it is not currently served by public transport and advises using another means. For a ski-season airport that is a real planning constraint.
- The airport is not currently served by public transport. That is the airport's own statement, and it goes on to advise using another means of transport.
- This is a winter charter airport for the Savoie resorts. Arriving without a booked transfer or a hire car is a mistake.
- Book your resort transfer when you book the flight.
- Central Chambery is about 10 minutes by car.
- The airport is right by the A43 motorway, which is what makes the road transfers work.
- Licensed taxis belong to the "Airport Taxis" association. The duty number is +33 6 74 63 18 26.
- Named operators include Accueil Taxi (+33 6 78 87 18 26), Taxi du Viviers (+33 6 14 82 62 26), Luxury Taxi des Alpes (+33 6 26 33 98 13) and Artaxis.
- Several of them specialise in ski transfers, which is the market here.
- Chambery-Challes-les-Eaux station is in the city, on the line from Lyon and Grenoble, so the train is a way into Chambery but not to the airport.
- The airport also trades as Chambery Business Airport for private aviation.
The sentence that matters
- "L'aeroport n'est a l'heure actuelle pas desservi par les transports en commun." The airport is not currently served by public transport, and the airport itself invites you to use another means of getting there.
- Airports rarely say this. When one does, believe it and plan accordingly.
What that means in practice
- This is primarily a winter charter airport for the Savoie and Tarentaise ski resorts, and a large share of its traffic arrives on package transfers.
- Book your transfer with your flight, or hire a car.
- Turning up expecting a bus is the failure mode here.
Taxis
- Licensed airport taxis belong to the "Airport Taxis" association, whose duty number is +33 6 74 63 18 26.
| Operator | Phone |
|---|---|
| Accueil Taxi | +33 6 78 87 18 26 |
| Taxi du Viviers | +33 6 14 82 62 26 |
| Luxury Taxi des Alpes | +33 6 26 33 98 13 |
- Artaxis also serves the airport.
- Several of these specialise in ski transfers, which is the local market.
By car
- The airport sits beside the A43 motorway, which is what makes it work as a resort gateway at all.
- Central Chambery is about 10 minutes away.
- Chambery-Challes-les-Eaux station, on the line from Lyon and Grenoble, is in the city, so a train gets you to Chambery but not to the terminal.
