Girona Costa Brava Airport (GRO) to Barcelona and Girona
The direct coach to Barcelona is EUR 22, but the local bus to Girona station plus a train costs a fraction of it.
- The airport is about 100 km from Barcelona and 12 km from Girona. Ryanair sells it as Barcelona; the direct coach takes about 75 minutes.
- The cheap way to Barcelona is not the direct coach. Take Sagales bus 607 to Girona train station - a local fare, not an airport one - and the high-speed train from there reaches Barcelona in about 39 minutes.
- The direct coach is EUR 22 one way, and Sagales sells a two-journey return ticket at EUR 35.00.
- Coach departures are tied to Ryanair's schedule, not to a clock timetable - if your flight is late, the bus is still there.
- In Barcelona you arrive at Estacio del Nord, platforms 28 and 29, about ten minutes' walk from Placa de Catalunya and on metro line 1.
Where the airport actually is
Girona Costa Brava is 12 km from Girona and about 100 km from Barcelona. It is the Costa Brava's airport that happens to be within coach distance of Barcelona, not a Barcelona airport.
The direct coach
Sagales runs the direct service to Barcelona Estacio del Nord, arriving at platforms 28 and 29. It is EUR 22.00 one way, about 75 minutes, and every departure is coordinated with Ryanair arrivals and departures rather than run to a fixed timetable. Sagales also sells a T-2 ticket with two journeys for EUR 35.00, valid 30 days from first use.
The same operator runs the coast: Lloret de Mar EUR 12.00, Blanes EUR 11.00, Calella EUR 11.00.
The cheaper way to Barcelona
Take bus 607 to Girona train station, a short local ride charged at a local fare rather than an airport one, and then the train. The high-speed service covers Girona to Barcelona in about 39 minutes; a regional train takes up to two hours for less. Bought separately the two tickets undercut the EUR 22.00 coach, and the fast train arrives at Barcelona Sants, which is on two metro lines.
It is worth doing the arithmetic on your own arrival: the coach is simpler and needs no connection, the train is quicker once you are on it and much cheaper, and the 607 does not run as often as the airport coach.
