Malaga Airport (AGP) to the city and the Costa del Sol

The C-1 train takes 12 minutes into Malaga, 8 to the AVE station and 34 to Fuengirola. The EMT express bus is 4 EUR flat.

  • The train is the fast way in: 12 minutes to Malaga centre, and only 8 minutes to Maria Zambrano, where the high speed trains leave from.
  • It carries on down the coast: Benalmadena in 18 minutes, Fuengirola in 34.
  • If your hotel is on the Costa del Sol, never go into Malaga. Take the train straight to the resort.
  • The EMT Express Aeropuerto bus is a flat 4 EUR, whatever the distance.
  • The bus runs every 20 to 25 minutes at peak and stops at both the AVE station and the bus station.
  • Renfe prices the train by zones, so the fare depends where you get off, while the bus does not.

The train, and why it beats the bus

Malaga Airport (AGP) to the city and the Costa del Sol
DestinationJourney time
Malaga Maria Zambrano (AVE station)8 minutes
Malaga centre12 minutes
Benalmadena18 minutes
Fuengirola34 minutes
  • The C-1 line runs through the airport, which is why it is quick in both directions.
  • Eight minutes to the high speed station makes a same day connection to Madrid or Cordoba realistic without a taxi.
  • Down the coast it is a resort shuttle: Torremolinos, Benalmadena and Fuengirola are all on the line.
  • Renfe charges by the number of zones, so buy to your station rather than assuming a flat price.

The bus

  • 4 EUR, flat, on the EMT Linea Express Aeropuerto.
  • Every 20 to 25 minutes at peak times.
  • It connects with the whole EMT network, and stops at both Maria Zambrano and the bus station, which is the departure point for the rest of the province.
  • Buy a QR ticket in the EMT Malaga app, or pay on board.
  • Luggage travels free, which is the bus's advantage over a crowded commuter train in August.
