Getting from La Palma Airport to the city

Line 500

• Line 500 runs Santa Cruz de La Palma to Los Cancajos to the airport.
• Monday to Saturday: 07:15 to 22:45.
• Sundays and public holidays: 07:45 to 22:45.
• The stop is on floor 0 at arrivals, so you do not need to change level.

The three places on the line

• The airport is at Mazo, on the eastern side of the island.
• Los Cancajos is the main resort area, with the beaches and much of the hotel stock, a few kilometres north.
• Santa Cruz de La Palma is the capital, about 8 km from the airport, with its colonial-era balconied houses along the seafront.

The island

• La Palma is the steepest island of its size in the world, rising to about 2400 metres at the Roque de los Muchachos.
• The observatory at the summit is one of the reasons the island has strict lighting rules and dark skies.
• The 2021 Cumbre Vieja eruption reshaped part of the western side and closed the airport briefly.

Practical notes

• Nothing runs before about a quarter past seven in the morning, and early flights to Tenerife and Gran Canaria leave before that.
• Hire cars are the norm on La Palma, because the interior is mountainous and the bus network is thin outside the eastern corridor.
