Leon (LEN): use the signed rank, and note the fare is not symmetric

Aena lists no bus for Leon. It also warns about drivers offering rides away from the official rank, and points out that the trip costs different amounts in each direction.

  • There is no bus. Aena's getting-there section for Leon lists car and taxi only.
  • Take a taxi only from the signed rank at the terminal. Aena explicitly warns about drivers offering services from other areas.
  • The fare is not the same both ways. From the airport to Leon, intercity fares apply. From the city to the airport, urban fares apply.
  • Check the meter starts at the beginning of the journey, at the minimum fare.
  • Ask for a receipt if you may want to complain later.
  • There are four local operators: Teletaxi Leon, Radio Taxi Leon, Radio Taxi San Andres del Rabanedo and Radio Taxi Valverde de la Virgen.
  • The airport is at La Virgen del Camino, west of the city on the Camino de Santiago route, which is why the intercity tariff applies.
  • Aena does not publish a fixed fare here, only pointers to the operators' own fare enquiries.

There is no bus

  • Aena's getting-there section for Leon has two pages: car and taxi. No scheduled bus serves the terminal.

The taxi, and the warning attached to it

  • Aena tells you to take a taxi from the signed rank at the terminal and to avoid drivers offering services from other areas. That warning is on the airport operator's own page, which is worth taking at face value.
  • Check that the meter is started at the start of the journey, showing the minimum fare.
  • Request a receipt. Aena repeats this for a reason: it is what a complaint hangs on.

The fare runs differently in each direction

  • Airport to Leon: intercity fares.
  • Leon to airport: urban fares.
  • This is not a mistake and it is not negotiable. It follows from where the municipal boundary sits relative to La Virgen del Camino.
  • Aena does not publish a fixed airport fare here. It links to the operators' own fare enquiries instead, so ask for an estimate when you book.
