Birmingham Airport (BHX) to the city
The Air-Rail Link monorail is free and takes two minutes to Birmingham International station, from where New Street is about ten minutes.
- The Air-Rail Link monorail is free.
- It takes two minutes from the terminal to Birmingham International station.
- It runs on demand between 03:30 and 00:30, so there is no timetable to catch.
- Birmingham New Street is about 10 minutes away by direct train, several times an hour.
- Fares start from 3.50 GBP.
- International is a main line station, so London Euston and the north are direct from it without going into New Street.
The free bit
- Most airports charge for the shuttle to the station. This one does not.
- Two minutes, on demand, between 03:30 and 00:30, with the carriage running continuously through those hours.
- It lands you inside Birmingham International station, not at a bus stop outside it.
The train
- About ten minutes to Birmingham New Street, with frequent services every hour.
- Fares from 3.50 GBP.
- Birmingham International is on the West Coast Main Line. London Euston, Coventry, Wolverhampton and the north west are all direct, so for many journeys New Street is a detour rather than a destination.
Timing
- The monorail stops at 00:30 and restarts at 03:30. A flight landing in that window means a taxi or a walk.
- Otherwise there is nothing to plan, which is unusual enough to be worth saying plainly.
