- The flat bus fare is the unusual part. Greater Manchester franchised its buses, so 2.00 GBP takes you anywhere in the county, and the same ticket lets you hop onto further buses for an hour.
- The tram is not flat. It is zonal, the airport sits in zone 4 and the city centre in zone 1, so an airport ride is a four zone journey and lands near the top of the scale.
- Contactless caps do the work for you. Touch in and out with the same card or device and you never pay more than the day or week cap for the zones you used, so there is no ticket to choose.
- Touching in before 07:00 or after 09:30 on a weekday puts you on the off peak cap.
Train, tram or bus
- The train reaches Manchester Piccadilly in about 20 minutes, every 10 minutes, seven days a week. It is the fastest way in and the main line connection.
- The tram runs to Victoria every 12 minutes, slower but useful if Victoria or somewhere along the line is where you are going.
- Both leave from Manchester Airport station, the same building at the heart of the airport campus.
Getting to the station
- Allow 5 to 15 minutes to walk there from your terminal, along the covered walkways. It is not at the door.
Where the networks reach
- Piccadilly is the main line station for London, Birmingham, Leeds and Scotland.
- The tram network reaches Altrincham, Bury, Ashton, East Didsbury, Eccles, Rochdale and the Trafford Centre without a change in the centre.
