Glasgow Prestwick Airport (PIK) to Glasgow

Show your airline ticket at the station and the rail fare to Glasgow is cut by half.

  • Show your airline ticket and get 50 per cent off the train. ScotRail discounts the Anytime Day Single by half for air passengers - you need the airline ticket and a passport or ID card.
  • The station is at the terminal, reached by a covered walkway, so this is one of the few budget airports where you do not need a bus first.
  • Glasgow Central is about 45 minutes away, with roughly 10 direct trains a day.
  • Fares are about GBP 6.45 one way based on a return, before the airline discount.
  • This is not Glasgow Airport. Glasgow International (GLA) is 15 km from the city; Prestwick is about 50 km south, in Ayrshire.

The discount nobody mentions

ScotRail gives air passengers 50 per cent off the Anytime Day Single between Prestwick International Airport and stations on the line, on production of your airline ticket plus a passport or identity card. It is not applied automatically and it is not offered if you buy from a machine without asking - which is why most arrivals pay full price.

The train

The station sits at the terminal, connected by a covered walkway - unusual for an airport of this kind. Glasgow Central is roughly 45 minutes away, with about 10 direct trains a day. The undiscounted fare is around GBP 6.45 one way based on a return, and there is no booking fee buying direct from the operator.

Where the airport actually is

Prestwick is in Ayrshire, about 50 km south of Glasgow. Glasgow's main airport is Glasgow International (GLA), 15 km west of the city centre and served by buses rather than trains. The two are an hour apart; a connection booked between them needs more slack than it looks.
