Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LPL) to the city
The adult bus fare is 2 GBP. The 500 runs into the city every 30 minutes from before 05:00 until after midnight; the 86A runs every 7 to 8 minutes to Liverpool South Parkway.
- The adult bus fare is 2 GBP.
- Service 500 runs every 30 minutes, from 04:28 to 00:27, taking about 40 minutes into the city.
- The 86A runs every 7 to 8 minutes through the day and every 15 minutes in the evening, until after midnight.
- The 86A reaches Liverpool South Parkway in about 15 minutes, and that is the useful stop.
- South Parkway is the rail interchange: Merseyrail into the centre and main line trains to London and Manchester.
- So the fastest way into Liverpool is often not the airport bus but the frequent local one plus a train.
Two buses, two strategies
| Service | Runs | Journey |
|---|---|---|
| 500 | every 30 minutes, 04:28 to 00:27 | about 40 minutes to the city |
| 86A | every 7 to 8 minutes by day, every 15 in the evening | about 15 minutes to Liverpool South Parkway |
- 2 GBP is the adult fare. There is no airport premium at Liverpool.
- The 500 is the direct one, ending at Liverpool ONE bus station and near Lime Street.
- The 86A is the frequent one. If you have just missed a 500, the 86A to South Parkway and a train in is usually quicker than waiting.
Why South Parkway matters
- It is a full interchange, not a local halt: Merseyrail for the city centre, and main line services towards Manchester and London.
- Fifteen minutes from the terminal on a bus that runs every seven or eight minutes.
- This is the connection that makes Liverpool workable for anyone travelling on beyond the city.
Late and early
- The 86A runs until after midnight and starts before half past four.
- The 500 covers a similar window but only twice an hour, so check both before assuming you are stranded.
