Inverness (INV): the airport station is a 20 minute walk from the terminal
Inverness Airport railway station is 11 minutes from the city but 20 minutes on foot from the terminal, along an uncovered path around the airfield. The bus goes to the door.
- Inverness Airport Railway Station is not at the terminal. It is a walk of approximately 20 minutes, following signs around the perimeter of the airfield.
- The path is well lit but uncovered. HIAL says to take care in adverse weather, which in the Highlands is most of it.
- The train itself is quick: about 11 minutes from Inverness Railway Station, on the Aberdeen route.
- So the train is 11 minutes plus a 20 minute walk. Weigh that against the bus before you choose.
- Stagecoach buses 1 and 13 run directly between the terminal and Inverness city centre.
- Bus 1 is the most direct service. Bus 13 also serves the airport but goes via Croy.
- Some Stagecoach services stop at the railway station and do not continue to the terminal. Check the destination.
- There is a reduced bus service on Sundays, and timetables vary on public holidays and in bad weather.
- Buses are low floor with priority seating, luggage racks and contactless payment, and a Journey Assistance Card is available.
- Passenger Assist works on the train, booked at least 2 hours ahead or before 22:00 for early travel next day, on 0800 046 1634.
- The taxi zone is outside the terminal, and the airport is partnered with Inverness Taxis. About 20 minutes to the city centre.
- The airport is about nine miles northeast of Inverness, off the A96 via the Inverness Airport Way.
The station that is not at the airport
- Inverness Airport Railway Station opened to serve this airport, and it is 20 minutes on foot from the terminal.
- The route runs around the perimeter of the airfield, signposted, well lit and uncovered.
- HIAL's own advice is to take care in adverse weather.
- The rail journey from Inverness city centre is about 11 minutes, on the Aberdeen line. Add the walk and it is half an hour, with luggage, outdoors.
- For most arrivals the bus is the better answer. The train earns its place if you are connecting from Nairn, Forres or Elgin rather than from the city.
The bus
- Stagecoach buses 1 and 13 run direct between the terminal and the city centre.
- Number 1 is the most direct. Number 13 also runs through the airport but goes via Croy.
- Join in the city at the bus station, a short walk from Inverness Railway Station.
- Watch the destination. Stagecoach also runs services that call at the railway station without continuing to the terminal.
- Reduced service on Sundays, and timetables may vary on public holidays and in adverse weather.
- Accessibility: low floor, easy access for a limited number of wheelchairs, approved mobility scooters and unfolded buggies, priority seating, luggage racks and contactless payment. A Journey Assistance Card is available for help boarding.

- About 20 minutes to the city centre.
