Humberside (HUY): the bus is on request and the train stops three miles short
There is no scheduled airport bus in the usual sense. One service runs every two hours on weekdays only, the other has no timetable at all and must be booked by phone, and the nearest railway station is three miles away.
- The North Lincolnshire JustGo bus has no fixed timetable. It responds to passenger requests and has to be booked.
- Book JustGo on 01482 592959 or through its app. Do not turn up expecting a bus stop service.
- Hornsby Travel service 4 runs Scunthorpe to Brigg and Kirmington via the airport, every two hours, Monday to Friday only. There is no weekend service.
- The nearest railway station is Barnetby, three miles from the airport. There is no bus link advertised between the two.
- From Barnetby, the airport's answer is a taxi, its approved partner Cable Taxis on 01652 802055, and it should be pre-booked.
- Barnetby is served by TransPennine Express, East Midlands and Northern, plus the Brigg Line on Saturdays only.
- Cable Taxis has a desk in the terminal building and a 24 hour phone line on the same number.
- By road the airport is off the A18, three miles from Junction 5 of the M180. Satellite navigation postcode DN39 6YH.
- Drop off is in Car Park 1 next to the terminal, free for up to 15 minutes. Meeting an arrival uses the same car park.
- Pre-booked parking must go in Long Stay, Car Parks 2 or 4. Pre-booked bookings allow no amendments or cancellations.
- Parking anywhere other than Car Parks 1, 2 and 4 is fined, including on yellow or red lines and in the bus lay-by. Enforcement is by Vehicle Control Services.
- Check-in desks generally open 2 to 3 hours before departure, and the first desk of the day opens at 04:30 for the 06:10 Amsterdam flight.
Public transport is thinner than it looks
- Humberside sits in open country at Kirmington, between Scunthorpe and Grimsby, and the two bus options both need planning.
- The North Lincolnshire JustGo service has no fixed timetable at all. The airport's own wording is that it simply responds to passenger requests. Book it in advance on 01482 592959 or through the app.
- Hornsby Travel service 4 runs Scunthorpe to Brigg and Kirmington via Ashby, Bottesford, Lakeside, Broughton, Brigg, Wrawby, Barnetby and the airport, every two hours Monday to Friday. That is a weekday service with a two hour gap, not an airport shuttle, and it does not cover weekends.
The train stops three miles short
- Barnetby is the nearest station, three miles away. It is a busy junction by local standards but it is not at the airport.
- The airport's advice for the last three miles is its approved partner, Cable Taxis, on 01652 802055, pre-booked, and it explicitly asks you to check availability first.
- Barnetby is served by TransPennine Express on the Cleethorpes to Manchester Airport route, East Midlands trains from Leicester and Nottingham through Lincoln, Northern on the Barton-upon-Humber line, and the Brigg Line on Saturdays only from Sheffield.
- Given the taxi dependency, treat the train as a route that works well when arranged in advance and badly when improvised.
Driving and parking
- Off the A18 trunk road, three miles from Junction 5 of the M180, with onward links via the M18, M62, M1, A1 and the Humber Bridge. Postcode DN39 6YH.
- The airport warns of selective overnight closures on the M180 and A180, so allow extra time on a night departure.
- Drop off and short stay is Car Park 1, next to the terminal, free for up to 15 minutes, and it is also where you wait for an arrival.
- Pre-booked parking must use Long Stay, Car Parks 2 or 4. Pre-booked reservations allow no amendments or cancellations, while turn-up-and-park allows changes up to 10pm the day before.
- Parking is only allowed in Car Parks 1, 2 and 4. Yellow lines, red lines, restricted areas and the bus lay-by all attract a fine, enforced by Vehicle Control Services on the airport's behalf.
At the terminal
- Check-in desks generally open 2 to 3 hours before departure. The earliest of the day opens at 04:30 for the 06:10 flight to Amsterdam.
- On domestic flights airlines require photo identity; check which forms your airline accepts.
- Special assistance is arranged on 01652 682080 or by email to the airport.
