Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP) to the city
Malpensa Express is 15 EUR to any Milano station and serves both terminals; four coach companies run the same route between them every 20 minutes.
- Malpensa Express costs 15 EUR to any Milano station, and 7.50 EUR for children aged 4 to 13. Under 3s go free.
- It serves both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, so you do not need to move between terminals first.
- It reaches Milano Centrale, Porta Garibaldi, Bovisa Politecnico and Cadorna - pick your station by where you are sleeping, not by which train comes first.
- The 30-day return is sold online only, and the return date can be changed up to three times.
- Four coach companies run to Milano Centrale, which between them means a departure roughly every 20 minutes from before dawn until after midnight.
- The taxi is a fixed fare set by the city and is by far the most expensive way in.
The train
Malpensa Express is run by Trenord and is the default way into Milan.
- 15 EUR for an adult with origin or destination at any Milano station.
- 7.50 EUR for children aged 4 to 13, and free for under 3s with a paying parent.
- The 30-day return can only be bought online. It allows one return trip within 30 days and the return date can be changed up to three times; the outbound date cannot be changed at all.
Which Milan station you want
This is the decision to make before boarding rather than after.
- Milano Centrale for onward trains to the rest of Italy, and for the north-east of the centre.
- Milano Cadorna sits right at the Castello Sforzesco and is on metro lines 1 and 2 - often closer to a central hotel than Centrale is.
- Porta Garibaldi and Bovisa Politecnico are also served.
- Both terminals have a station. T1 and T2 are on the line, so arriving at either is fine.
The coaches
Four operators run the airport to Milano Centrale road service, and their timetables interleave.

- Between them that is a departure about every 20 minutes, and the coverage stretches from before the first train to after the last one - which is the real argument for the coach.
- A coach on an early or late flight is often the only option, so check the hours above against your slot rather than assuming the train runs.
Taxis
- Milan sets a fixed, all-inclusive fare for the airport run rather than leaving it on the meter.
- It is per vehicle, so it divides across a group, but Malpensa is far enough out that the taxi costs many times the train even split four ways.
- Book through the official radio taxi numbers, +39 02 4040 or +39 02 8585, or use the rank. Anyone touting inside the terminal is not part of it.
Malpensa is not in Milan
- It is well outside the city to the northwest, which is why every option here takes real time and why "Milan" on a boarding pass can mean an hour's travel after landing.
- Milan has two other airports, Linate and Bergamo, and low-cost tickets often mean one of those instead. Check which one you are actually flying to before booking a transfer.
