Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE) to the city

The Aerobus is 10 EUR to Piazzale Roma; the Alilaguna boat is 18 EUR and stops everywhere. For the same 18 EUR the bus ticket adds 90 minutes of vaporetto travel.

  • Aerobus (line 5) is 10.00 EUR one way to Piazzale Roma, valid 75 minutes with transfers on the mainland bus and tram network.
  • The same 18.00 EUR buys either an Alilaguna boat ticket or an Aerobus plus 90 minutes of vaporetto.
  • The Alilaguna boat is a stopping service, not a transfer: the Blue Line calls at a dozen jetties before San Marco.
  • An Aerobus return is 18.00 EUR, the same price as a single boat ride.
  • Each extra bag on the boat costs 4.00 EUR.
  • Piazzale Roma is not the centre. The bus leaves you at the edge of Venice, where the vaporetti and the bridges start.

The two ways in, and what they really cost

Aerobus return18.00 EURTwo separate 75 minute journeys
Aerobus + Rete Unica 90 minute18.00 EURThe same bus, plus 90 minutes on the vaporetti
Alilaguna single18.00 EUROne boat ride from the airport jetty into Venice
Alilaguna return32.00 EURTwo boat rides
  • The choice is not boat against bus. It is one boat ride against a bus ride plus an hour and a half of water transport, for exactly the same 18.00 EUR.
  • Alilaguna is priced as a sightseeing service and runs like one. The Blue Line calls at Murano, Fondamente Nove, Ospedale, Bacini, Lido, Arsenale, San Zaccaria, San Marco, Zattere, Giudecca, Tronchetto and the railway station.
  • The Orange Line goes up the Grand Canal to Madonna dell Orto, Guglie, San Stae, Rialto, Sant Angelo, Ca Rezzonico and Santa Maria del Giglio. If your hotel is on that list, the boat drops you at the door and the argument changes.
  • Each additional piece of luggage on Alilaguna is 4.00 EUR, which two suitcases turn into a meaningful surcharge.

Where the bus leaves you

  • Piazzale Roma is the last place a road reaches. From there it is the vaporetto, a water taxi or your own legs over the bridges.
  • That is why the 18.00 EUR combined ticket exists. It is the bus fare and the onward vaporetto in one, and for most hotels it beats buying them separately.
  • Airport and city tickets are separate systems. An ordinary Venice travel ticket is not valid to or from Marco Polo, and airport services are priced on their own.

Passes worth knowing about

  • Alilaguna sells 24, 48 and 72 hour tickets at 40, 60 and 80 EUR, and airport transfers are included in them.
  • They are sold at ticket offices only, not on board, and they are not valid on the Green Line.
  • Children under six travel free on the Actv urban network in the Venice municipality.
