Trapani Birgi Airport (TPS) to Trapani and Palermo
Coaches to Palermo run a handful of times a day for around EUR 10; Trapani itself is twenty minutes away.
- Trapani is 15 km away, Palermo about 100 km. Palermo has its own airport, Punta Raisi (PMO), with a train into the city - if your plan was Palermo, check which airport your flight actually uses.
- The Palermo coach takes about an hour and a half and costs a fraction of a taxi. Buy from the operator, not from a desk in the terminal.
- Autoservizi Salemi and Segesta Autolinee share the route, running a handful of departures a day rather than an hourly shuttle.
- The timetable is the constraint, not the price. Departures are spread across the day and the gaps are hours long, so look up the actual times before you land.
- Into Trapani itself is about twenty minutes by local bus to the port, which is also where the Egadi Islands ferries leave from.
Where the airport actually is
Trapani Birgi, formally Vincenzo Florio Airport, sits on the coast about 15 km south of Trapani and roughly 100 km from Palermo. It is the natural airport for western Sicily - Trapani, Marsala, Erice, the Egadi Islands and the Segesta temples - and a long, cheap coach ride from Palermo.
To Palermo
Autoservizi Salemi and Segesta Autolinee both run the airport to Palermo route, taking roughly an hour and a half. Neither operator's site was reachable when this page was checked and the airport publishes its timetables as PDFs, so no fare is quoted here rather than one borrowed from a booking aggregator.
What matters more than the fare is the frequency. These are intercity coaches with a handful of departures spread across the day, not an airport shuttle, and the operators publish their timetables as PDFs that change between summer and winter. Check the specific departure that meets your flight; the gap between two of them can be three hours.
The same operators connect Palermo's own airport, Punta Raisi, which is worth knowing if you are flying in and out of different Sicilian airports.
To Trapani and the islands
A local bus runs from outside the terminal to Trapani port in about twenty minutes. The port is the departure point for hydrofoils to the Egadi Islands - Favignana, Levanzo and Marettimo - so for a lot of arrivals here, that bus is the entire transfer.
