Lakselv (LKL): three airlines, and the terminal stays open past midnight

Banak is the busiest of the small Finnmark fields: Widerøe, SAS and Norwegian all serve it, and the terminal is open from 05:30 until 00:15 on weekdays. Saturday is six hours.

  • Weekdays the terminal is open 05:30 to 00:15. Almost nineteen hours.
  • Saturday is 08:30 to 14:30 only.
  • Sunday is 12:00 to 00:15.
  • Three airlines serve Lakselv: Widerøe, SAS and Norwegian. Most small Finnmark airports have one.
  • Visiting address: Lakselv lufthavn, Banak, 9700 Lakselv.
  • Parking here is bookable and drop-in, unlike the free car parks at the smallest Finnmark fields.
  • Parking is operated by OnePark, with customer service open 24 hours a day on 64 81 19 80.
  • Banak is the gateway to Porsanger and inland Finnmark, which is why it carries more traffic than its neighbours.
  • Finnmark's county buses are run by Snelandia, and part of the network is Fleks, which only runs when somebody books it.
  • A Fleks trip must be booked at least two hours before the route starts, counted from the start of the route and not from your own stop.
  • For the first departure of the next morning, book by 21:00 the evening before.
  • Fleks is normally operated by taxi or minibus. On some stretches that means four seats in a car.
  • Prebooked passengers are prioritised. If you miss the deadline you can try turning up, but only if somebody else booked the trip.
  • Luggage space on a Fleks taxi is limited, and Snelandia asks you to ring ahead if you have a lot.
  • Bicycles and dogs are not normally carried on Fleks unless agreed in advance.
  • Cancel a Fleks booking on 75 77 18 88 or by email to Snelandia.
  • Route enquiries in Finnmark are on 177.
  • Use the journey planner rather than a printed timetable. Snelandia says only the planner shows deviations and public holidays.
  • Read the day codes on a printed table carefully. DX67 means daily except Saturday and Sunday, DX6 means daily except Saturday.

An unusually well connected small airport

  • Banak is the airport for Porsanger, and it is the exception among the small Finnmark fields: Widerøe, SAS and Norwegian all serve it, where most have only Widerøe.
  • The opening hours reflect that: weekdays 05:30 to 00:15, Sunday 12:00 to 00:15. Only Saturday, 08:30 to 14:30, is short.

On the ground

  • Lakselv lufthavn, Banak, 9700 Lakselv.
  • Parking is bookable in advance or taken as drop-in, rather than the free car park of the smaller fields, and is operated by OnePark with customer service open 24 hours a day on 64 81 19 80.

The county bus network behind the airport

  • None of the small Finnmark airports has an airport bus. What exists is Snelandia, the Finnmark county network, and part of it runs on demand.
  • Fleks routes appear on the timetable but only operate when somebody books them. They exist so that a thin route keeps a service instead of running an empty bus.
  • Book at least two hours before the route starts. Note the wording: two hours before the start of the route, not before it reaches your stop.
  • For a first morning departure, book by 21:00 the evening before, so the driver can plan.
  • The vehicle is normally a taxi or a minibus, sometimes with only four seats. Passengers who booked come first; if there is room the driver may take others.
  • Luggage space is limited on a taxi-operated Fleks route, and bicycles and dogs are not normally carried without prior agreement. With hold baggage off a flight, that is worth a phone call.

Numbers and timetables

  • Route enquiries 177. Customer service 75 77 18 88. Cancellations go through the same number or by email.
  • Snelandia recommends the journey planner over a printed table, because only the planner carries deviations and public holidays.
  • If you do read a printed table, the day codes matter: D is daily, DX6 is daily except Saturday, DX67 is weekdays only, 1 to 5 is Monday to Friday.
