Røros (RRS): four opening windows a day, and closed every Saturday
Røros keeps the most fragmented opening hours of any airport in Norway on this list. Monday to Thursday it opens four separate times, none longer than ninety minutes, and Saturday it does not open at all.
- Monday to Thursday the terminal opens four times: 05:45 to 07:15, 10:00 to 10:45, 15:00 to 16:30 and 19:00 to 19:45.
- Friday is the same shape with a later start: 06:00 to 07:30, then 10:00 to 10:45, 15:00 to 16:30 and 19:00 to 19:45.
- Saturday is closed. Avinor states it twice on the same page.
- Sunday opens four times too: 11:00 to 13:00, 14:20 to 15:00, 15:30 to 17:30 and 18:50 to 19:30.
- No window is longer than ninety minutes. Arriving early gains you nothing.
- Visiting address: Grind-Olaveien 50, 7374 Røros.
- Parking gives a free 20 minute drive-through. Leave inside it and you pay nothing.
- Exceed it and the charge runs from your entry time, with the free 20 minutes not deducted.
- 27 kroner per started 30 minutes, maximum 199 kroner within 24 hours.
- Air freight is handled by Røros Air Service through Travelnet Røros Flyservice.
- Røros is a UNESCO listed mining town, so the airport sees visitor traffic well beyond its size.
- Check the window your flight falls in before you leave for the airport.
An airport that opens four times a day
- Røros publishes the most fragmented terminal schedule of any airport in this survey.
- Monday to Thursday: 05:45 to 07:15, 10:00 to 10:45, 15:00 to 16:30, 19:00 to 19:45.
- Friday: 06:00 to 07:30, 10:00 to 10:45, 15:00 to 16:30, 19:00 to 19:45.
- Saturday: closed. Avinor writes it in the table and repeats it in a line underneath.
- Sunday: 11:00 to 13:00, 14:20 to 15:00, 15:30 to 17:30, 18:50 to 19:30.
- The longest single window in the week is ninety minutes. The building exists to handle the aircraft and closes between them, so there is no benefit in arriving early and no shelter if you do.
Parking, and the twenty minutes that disappear
- There is a free 20 minute drive-through. If you leave within it you are not charged at all, which covers a drop-off.
- If you stay longer, the charge starts from your entry time and the free 20 minutes is not deducted. Avinor says this explicitly. A 30 minute stop is billed as 30 minutes.
- 27 kroner per started 30 minutes, 199 kroner maximum within 24 hours.
Practicalities
- Grind-Olaveien 50, 7374 Røros.
- Air freight is handled by Røros Air Service, through Travelnet Røros Flyservice.
- Røros is a UNESCO listed mining town, so this small airport carries visitor traffic out of proportion to its size, especially in winter. Book the transfer into town rather than assuming one.
