Svolvær (SVJ): ignore Avinor's transport page, it describes Sogndal
Avinor still publishes a public transport page for Svolvaer, and its text is about Sogndal, an airport 900 kilometres away. Use the county planner instead, and note that the terminal is open 06:00 to 21:30 on weekdays.
- Avinor's Svolvær public transport page is wrong. Its text describes an airport bus between the bus station in Sogndal and Sogndal Airport.
- That is a different airport, in Vestland, roughly 900 kilometres south. The error appears in both the English and Norwegian versions.
- Do not plan around it. Use the Reis Nordland journey planner for the actual local services.
- The terminal is open Monday to Friday 06:00 to 21:30.
- Saturday is 10:00 to 19:00 and Sunday 12:00 to 21:30.
- Visiting address: Flyplassveien 41, 8300 Svolvær. The airport is at Helle, just outside the town.
- Widerøe is the only airline.
- Svolvær is the eastern Lofoten airport and Leknes the western one. They are about an hour apart by road.
- The Lofotekspressen, line 300, runs Å to Leknes to Svolvær to Narvik.
- Bus baggage is one hold bag up to 30 kg plus one 10 kg hand bag of at most 50 x 40 x 30 cm.
- Fresh fish and other organic material may not be carried on the bus or in the hold.
- The travel guarantee excludes ferries, commercial routes and extraordinary weather.
The published transport page is not about this airport
- Avinor still has a page titled public transport to and from Svolvær Airport. Its content is about Sogndal: it describes an airport bus between the Sogndal bus station and Sogndal Airport, a 20 minute trip, and points at Skyss, the Vestland county authority.
- Sogndal is roughly 900 kilometres south of Lofoten, and the same wrong text appears in both the English and the Norwegian version of the page. It is a content error at Avinor, not a quirk of translation.
- Ignore it. For real local services use the Reis Nordland journey planner, which is the Nordland county authority.
The airport itself
- Flyplassveien 41, 8300 Svolvær. The field is at Helle, just outside the town. Widerøe is the only airline.
- Monday to Friday 06:00 to 21:30. Saturday 10:00 to 19:00. Sunday 12:00 to 21:30.
- Note that Svolvær keeps longer weekend hours than most of the small Nordland airports, which makes it the more forgiving of the two Lofoten fields.
Lofoten by bus
- Svolvær is the eastern Lofoten airport; Leknes is the western one, about an hour away by road. Check the code on your ticket.
- The spine of the archipelago is the Lofotekspressen, line 300, from Å through Leknes and Svolvær to Narvik, with local routes to Kabelvåg, Henningsvær, Laukvik and Fiskebøl.
- County rules apply: one hold bag up to 30 kg, one hand bag up to 10 kg at 50 x 40 x 30 cm, no fresh fish or other organic material, no electric bicycles.
- The travel guarantee covers alternative transport after a delayed or cancelled bus or express boat, but not ferries, commercial routes or extraordinary weather.
