Which Lofoten airport is yours

• Lofoten has two Avinor airports: Leknes on Vestvågøy in the west, and Svolvær, Helle in the east. They are roughly an hour apart by road and both are served by Widerøe. Check the code on the ticket before you plan the transfer, because the wrong one is a long drive.
• Leknes's visiting address is Leknes Airport, 8370 Leknes.

Opening hours

• Weekdays 05:00 to 22:30, Saturday 10:30 to 14:30, Sunday 10:30 to 22:30.
• The weekday start is unusually early for an airport this size. The Saturday window of four hours is the constraint.

Buses in Lofoten

• There is no airport shuttle. What exists is the county network coordinated by Reis Nordland.
• The main line is the Lofotekspressen, line 300, running Å to Leknes to Svolvær to Narvik. Local routes link Leknes with Ballstad, Stamsund, Ure, Mortsund, Valberg and, across the municipal boundary, Ramberg, Fredvang and Nusfjord, though several of those are school routes with school-term timetables.
• Use the journey planner rather than a printed timetable. Reis Nordland says outright that only the planner carries deviations and holidays.

County rules worth knowing before you board

• One hold bag up to 30 kg, one hand bag up to 10 kg at no more than 50 x 40 x 30 cm, under the seat.
• Fresh fish and other organic material are not allowed on the bus or in the hold.
• Electric bicycles are not carried. Ordinary bicycles go free when there is room and the driver agrees; electric scooters must be folded.
• The travel guarantee may cover alternative transport when a bus or express boat is delayed or cancelled, but not for ferries, commercial routes, or extraordinary weather. In Lofoten in winter, weather is the usual reason, so the guarantee is thinner protection than it sounds.
