Røst (RET): Monday and Friday the terminal shuts in the middle of the day
Røst keeps the sharpest opening hours of any Norwegian airport on this list. On Mondays and Fridays it opens 07:10 to 09:15 and again 19:10 to 21:50, with nothing in between, and Saturday is two hours and forty minutes.
- Monday and Friday: open 07:10 to 09:15, then closed, then open 19:10 to 21:50. The middle of the day is shut.
- Tuesday to Thursday: 07:10 to 21:50, straight through.
- Saturday: 11:10 to 13:50 only. Two hours and forty minutes.
- Sunday: 18:10 to 21:50. Evening only.
- The hours track the flights, not the day. Turning up early is not a strategy here.
- Visiting address: Røst Airport, 8064 Røst, on the outermost inhabited island of Lofoten.
- Widerøe is the only airline.
- Parking is free, with all vehicles parked at the owner's own risk.
- Parking is operated by OnePark, customer service open 24 hours a day.
- The alternative to flying is the sea, and the ferry is not covered by the county travel guarantee.
- The Nordland travel guarantee excludes extraordinary weather. On Røst that is the usual reason for a cancellation.
- Book accommodation before you travel. A cancelled flight here means a night on the island, not a taxi home.
The opening hours are the story
- Røst is the outermost inhabited island of Lofoten, and its terminal is open only when there is an aircraft.
- Monday and Friday: 07:10 to 09:15, then closed, then 19:10 to 21:50.
- Tuesday to Thursday: 07:10 to 21:50 continuously.
- Saturday: 11:10 to 13:50. Sunday: 18:10 to 21:50.
- On the split days the building is genuinely shut for around ten hours. If your plan involves waiting at the airport between a morning arrival and an evening departure, it does not work.
Practicalities
- Visiting address: Røst Airport, 8064 Røst. Widerøe is the only airline.
- Parking is free, with all vehicles parked at the owner's own risk, and is operated by OnePark with customer service open 24 hours a day.
When the flight does not go
- Weather closes this airfield, and the sea is the alternative. That matters because of how the county's protection is written.
- The Nordland travel guarantee can reimburse alternative transport after a delayed or cancelled bus or express boat, but it does not apply to ferries, to commercial routes, or when the cause is extraordinary weather or anything else outside the operator's control. On Røst, extraordinary weather is the ordinary reason.
- The practical consequence is simple: have somewhere to stay and a flexible onward booking. A cancellation here is an extra night on the island.
