Getting from Hakodate Airport to the city

The buses

• Hakodate Teisan Bus is the airport operator's named connection. It links the airport with JR Hakodate station and, separately, the station with the ferry terminal.
• It runs to the arrival and departure times of every domestic flight, at what the airport calls a low fare.
• Hakodate Bus operates the wider city network, and sells the Kan-pass, a one day ticket for unlimited travel on all its routes within a designated area.
• Onuma Kotsu runs a shuttle between the Hakodate Onuma Prince Hotel and the airport. The same shuttle can be used between Nanae-Honcho or Onakayama and the airport, and the journey was cut by seven minutes.

Getting around Hokkaido from here

• New Chitose: about 40 minutes by air, about 3 hours 30 by train.
• Kushiro: about 1 hour 25 by air.
• Memanbetsu: about 1 hour 30 by air. Wakkanai: about 1 hour 40.
• Asahikawa: about 6 hours by road, about 5 hours 45 by train.
• Obihiro: about 6 hours 20 by road, about 6 hours 30 by train.

The ferry

• Hakodate's ferry terminal links to Aomori and Oma on Honshu, and the bus connection is why the airport lists it separately.
• The Hokkaido Shinkansen reaches Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto, outside the city, which is the other way in from the south.

The city

• Hakodate was one of the first Japanese ports opened to foreign trade, and the Motomachi slopes still carry the churches and consulates from that period.
• The night view from Mount Hakodate is the city's signature.
• Onuma Quasi-National Park, on the shuttle route, is about half an hour north.
