Memanbetsu (MMB): buses to Abashiri and Kitami
The airport publishes about 42 minutes by bus to JR Abashiri station and 35 to JR Kitami station, with Lake Kussharo about an hour away by car.

- Abashiri is the drift ice town, and the icebreaker cruises run from its port in winter.
The two bus routes
- JR Abashiri station: about 42 minutes by bus.
- JR Kitami station: about 35 minutes by bus.
- Those are the two towns the airport serves, on opposite sides of it.
- Journey times vary with conditions, which in eastern Hokkaido means snow for several months.
The national park
- Lake Kussharo: about 1 hour by car.
- Lake Mashu: about 1 hour 10.
- Lake Akan: about 1 hour 40.
- Shiretoko: about 1 hour 40. The peninsula is a World Heritage site.
- This is the reason most visitors fly here. Memanbetsu is the closest airport to the Akan Mashu and Shiretoko parks.

- New Chitose: about 50 minutes by air, about 4 hours 50 by road.
- Kushiro: about 4 hours 10 by train, about 3 hours by road.
- Asahikawa: about 4 hours 15 by train, about 3 hours 40 by road.
- Obihiro: about 6 hours 30 by train, about 3 hours 50 by road.
- Hakodate: about 1 hour 30 by air. Wakkanai: about 1 hour 50 by air.
Winter
- Abashiri is famous for the drift ice that reaches the Okhotsk coast in February.
- The airport stays open through the winter and is the practical way in, since the drive from Sapporo is close to five hours.
