Every car on the Mu-Sky is reserved and needs an extra Mu-Ticket. On the ordinary Limited Express only cars 1 and 2 do.

Meitetsu runs the trains from Chubu Centrair station, which is reached from the Access Plaza.
The Mu-Sky is the fastest service, and every car on it is a reserved "special car".
That means a Mu-Ticket (a special car ticket) on top of the ordinary fare. No exceptions.
On the Limited Express (Tokkyu), only cars 1 and 2 are special cars. Cars 3 and up need only an ordinary ticket.
All other services - Limited Express with all ordinary cars, Rapid Express, Express, Semi Express and Local - need only an ordinary ticket.
The Mu-Sky leaves from platform 1.
Every other train leaves from platform 2 or platform 3 - platform 2 is ahead and to the right after the gates, platform 3 ahead and to the left.

Chubu Centrair is served by Meitetsu, the Nagoya Railroad, from a station directly attached to the terminal by way of the Access Plaza.
The Mu-Sky is the flagship airport service and it is entirely reserved: every car is a "special car", so you need a Mu-Ticket in addition to your ordinary fare. You cannot board it on a plain ticket.
The Limited Express is the compromise. Cars 1 and 2 are special cars needing a Mu-Ticket; cars 3 onwards are ordinary and need only the fare.
Everything else - the all-ordinary Limited Express, Rapid Express, Express, Semi Express and Local - needs only an ordinary ticket.
This is the fact that catches visitors: a ticket machine will sell you a fare to Nagoya, and it will not by itself let you onto the Mu-Sky.

The Mu-Sky departs from platform 1. After the gates, go ahead and to the right.
All other trains use platforms 2 and 3. Platform 2 is ahead and to the right, platform 3 ahead and to the left. Check the indicator boards.
The ticket office and the Mu-Ticket office are both to the left of the ticket gates, before you go through.
On platform 1, the position of each special car is shown on the indicator above the platform doors, so you know where to stand.

Meitetsu's Airport Line joins the Tokoname Line and runs to Meitetsu Nagoya, in the centre of the city, next to JR Nagoya station and the Shinkansen.
IC cards work, and Meitetsu also takes contactless card and QR payment for ordinary fares - but a Mu-Ticket is a separate purchase.
You can buy a Mu-Ticket online through Meitetsu's ticketless service if you would rather not queue.

Centrair is on an artificial island in Ise Bay, about 35 km south of central Nagoya. It opened in 2005 and replaced the old airport for scheduled international flights.
Nagoya Airfield (NKM), the old one at Komaki, still handles a small domestic operation. If your ticket says NKM rather than NGO, it is a different airport in a different direction.
Centrair also has a ferry to Tsu in Mie prefecture, which is the fast way to reach Ise and the Kii peninsula.
