Getting from Kitakyushu Airport to the city

The rail plus bus route

• JR Kutami station is the closest station to the airport, and a bus runs between the two.
• From Kutami, trains go towards Kokura, Kurosaki and Hakata one way, and towards Yukuhashi, Nakatsu and Oita the other.
• This is the cheapest way in and out.

The direct coaches

• JR Kokura station to the airport. Kokura is the Sanyo Shinkansen station for Kitakyushu, so this is the connection for anyone arriving by bullet train.
• JR Kurosaki station to the airport.
• JR Kutami station to the airport.

The Fukuoka connection

• A Fukuhoku limousine taxi runs between the airport and Tenjin and Hakata station in Fukuoka.
• Kitakyushu is about 70 km from Fukuoka, and is used as a low cost and overnight alternative to Fukuoka Airport, which has a night-time curfew.

A warning from the airport

• Trains and buses are delayed or cancelled by weather, accidents and vehicle faults.
• The airport points passengers to JR Kyushu's service information and Nishitetsu's bus information before travelling, and advises leaving margin.

The airport itself

• It is built on a reclaimed island in the Suo Sea, connected by a bridge.
• Being offshore, it operates around the clock, which is why it handles overnight freight and late passenger flights.
