Getting from Iwate Hanamaki Airport to the city

The community bus

• Hanamaki City runs and publishes its own community bus network.
• The Ohasama Hanamaki line is the one passing the airport: about 60 scheduled calls, 07:06 to 16:20, towards Hanamaki station and Ohasama junior high school.
• The airport stop is Iwate Hanamaki Airport mae, about 820 metres out, and there is a closer stop called Kuzu about 330 metres away.
• Other stops nearby include Kuzu Suwa shrine, Uenoyama castle site and Tarikikami community hall.

The railways

• Hanamaki Airport station is on the JR Tohoku main line, taking its name from the airport.
• Shin-Hanamaki is the Tohoku Shinkansen station, a few kilometres east, and is the fast connection to Tokyo and Morioka.
• Between them, the rail network here is better than the bus timetable suggests.

The limits

• The community bus stops running mid-afternoon.
• Airport buses timed to flights run to Hanamaki and Morioka, and that is how most passengers travel.
• Taxis are available at the terminal.

The region

• Hanamaki is the birthplace of Miyazawa Kenji, the poet and children's author, and has a museum devoted to him.
• Hanamaki Onsen is a large hot spring resort just outside the city.
• Morioka, about 40 km north, is the prefectural capital and the main destination for arrivals.
