Hiroshima (HIJ): the bus centre, the Shinkansen exit, or Shirachi station

Limousine buses run from Hiroshima Bus Center and the Shinkansen exit at Hiroshima station. A rail and bus route via Shirachi is the alternative.

  • Limousine buses run from Hiroshima Bus Center to the airport.
  • A second bus runs from the Shinkansen exit of Hiroshima station.
  • The rail alternative is Hiroshima to Shirachi on the JR Sanyo main line, then a bus up to the airport.
  • A shared taxi runs from the north exit of Itsukaichi station.
  • From Kure there is a bus from the Clayton Bay Hotel and Kure station.
  • From Fukuyama there is a direct bus, a shared taxi, and a rail route via Shirachi.
  • From Bingo-Fuchu you take a highway bus to Kosaka bus stop and change.
  • The airport publishes separate route guides for nine directions, including Mihara, Takehara, Onomichi, Innoshima, Higashi-Hiroshima and Miyajimaguchi.

From Hiroshima city

  • Hiroshima Bus Center to the airport by limousine bus. The bus centre is in the middle of the city, above the Sogo department store.
  • Hiroshima station Shinkansen exit to the airport by bus. This is the one to use if you are arriving by bullet train.
  • Hiroshima to Shirachi station by JR, then bus to the airport. Shirachi is the nearest station on the Sanyo main line, and the bus climbs from there.
  • Itsukaichi station north exit to the airport by shared taxi.

From the rest of the prefecture

  • Kure: bus from the Clayton Bay Hotel and Kure station.
  • Fukuyama: direct bus, shared taxi, or JR to Shirachi and a bus.
  • Bingo-Fuchu: highway bus to Kosaka bus stop, then change for the airport.
  • The airport publishes nine separate direction guides, adding Mihara and Takehara, Konu and Sera, Onomichi and Innoshima, Higashi-Hiroshima and Saijo, Miyajimaguchi, and destinations outside the prefecture.

Why it is like this

  • Hiroshima Airport is about 50 km east of the city, on a plateau near Mihara. It is not close to anything.
  • The old airport at Hiroshima-Nishi is far closer to the centre but takes only small aircraft.
  • The distance is the single most important planning fact here. Allow properly for it in both directions.

What people come for

  • The Peace Memorial Park and Museum in the city.
  • Miyajima and the Itsukushima shrine, reached from Miyajimaguchi.
  • The Shimanami Kaido cycle route from Onomichi across to Shikoku.
